Talks on troops

fflZ.P.x. Staff Crspdtl SINGAPORE, March 17. The future of New Zealand forces in Singapore was discussed today by the Deputy Prime Minister (Mr Taiboys) and Singapore Defence Minister and Deputy Prime Minister (Dr Goh Keng Swee). Mr Taiboys, who arrived last night for a two-day visit at the start of his tour of A.S.E.A.N. capitals, said New Zealand was agreeable in principle to keeping its forces in Singapore.

He said the Government was reconsidering the Labour Government’s plan to withdraw New Zealand troops, but no decision would be made until it had heard the views of Singapore Ministers.
