Win, loss to Papanui
(NZ. Press Association) HAMILTON. Papanui (Christchurch) had a win and a loss in the national club softball championships in Hamilton yesterday. The team comfortably beat the Wanganui side Braves 18-4, in the afternoon match. However, in the early match Island Bay (Wellington) beat Papanui 3-1 after the latter had brought its : very first batter home. Although scoring three hits to two, Papanui’s errors cost it the game. He came home on a passed ball to halt the Hawke’s Bay side’s run of success. But one of the best games was yet to come. Late in the afternoon Cambridge clashed with Cardinals and desperately required victory to even the win-loss ratio amongst the top quartet. In an extremely tight game, Cambridge emerged a 1-0 winner, scoring five safe hits to the opposition's two. The home team scored its run in the first innings and.
