The Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Highet) has stepped In to prevent the forced closing of the Thames Jockey Club’s Parawal course. , , , The club has been Involved In a three year legal battle with the New Zealand Racing Authority, which wants to shut down several venues in a move towards greater centralisation of News of the Ministerial intervention. in a reply to the M.P. for Coromandel (Mr Schultz), was released at a special committee meeting of the club. But the Racing Authority would not be obliged to help the club with money from its amenities account, he said. Club officials are not worried at the prospect of being cut off from the authority’s purse.
TTie annual meeting in October featured an almost debt-free balance-sheet showing assets of more than $400,000.
