(N.Z. Preet Association)

WELLINGTON, March 17. The Russian fisheries research vessel Rakitnoe was boarded in Palliser Bay, off the southern Wairarapa coast, yesterday morning by a party from the fisheries Satrol vessel H.M.N.Z.S. awea.

The Russian ship was found to be carrying out routine maintenance with her crew unaware that PalHser Bay was inside New Zealand’s territorial .’Aters, according to a statement today from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.

The Hawea’s commanding officer, Lieutenant-Com-mander F. D. Arnott, of Gisborne, said he was satisfied the vessel’s actions were innocent and the patrol craft accompanied the research vessel into Wellington. The Hawea was ordered to Palliser Bay after a report from a local fishing boat that a foreign vessel was seen close in-shore. .
