The Wingatui trainers. 1 Brian Anderton and Tonyp Prendergast, brought horses north to win four of the minor races at Ashburton yesterday. Cock Your Ear and MelJanie, two daughters of the former champion sire Mellay, were easy winners for i the Anderton stable, and] Prendergast won the twoH maiden events with Royal- ! marls and Sir James. Cock Your Ear (Appren- : dees’ Handicap) and Mellanie (Barford Handicap) were ridden well-judged races by the stable apprentice. G. Offen. But Sir James, in only' his second start, was backed: down to second favourite in the Trial Stakes No. 2. Sir James capitalised on a rails run to master the, favourite, Flambie D'Or, then just lasted for a half; head victory over the faster-i finishing West Coast gelding, Kaimoto.
