Belfast works kills 1m lambs
Last Friday the millionth lamb for the season was processed at the Canterbury works of the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company at Belfast. During the corresponding period last season the works handled 789,354 lambs.
By the weekend, the Canterbury works lamb kill had reached 1,007,832. Since the beginning of the season the company's Canterbury. Fairfield and Pareora works had processed 2,532.348 lambs and 186.414 sheep for export. At the corresponding time last season 2,183,300 lambs and 371.714 'sheep had been killed. The lamb kills at the Fairfield and Pareora works to last Friday
were 790,709 and 733,807 respectively, compared with 727,283 and 666,663 at the same time last season.
To last week-end the sheep kills were 62,393 at Canterbury compared with 138,494 a year ago, 62,690 at Fairfield compared with 134,827 and 61,331 at Pareora against 98,393 last season. There has been a spectacular increase in the cattle kill at the company’s Belfast and Pareora works this season. To last weekend the kill at Pareora was 44,678 head compared with 19,596 at the corresponding time last year, and at Pareora 23.993. compared with 10,563.
The number of pigs processed at Belfast to last Friday was 21,048. compared with 18.398 for the corresponding period last season.
