Cottage plan put to Govt
Owner - occupier pensioner cottages may soon be built in Christchurch.
- A three-man deputation is led bv the Mayor of Christ church (Mr H. G. Hay), met e the Minister of Housing and d deputy Minister of Finance e (Mr Gair) in Wellington yes i- terday to discuss the building of pensioner cottages. Mr Hay said in Christas church last evening that the a'Government was “quite ’• -encouraging” on this cond cept. The $5OOO asset limit Cf would not apply. An elderly ;s |person could sell his own .home, and have equity in a .'smaller unit. I Mr Hay said Mr Gair was ! “anxious to help” the council with bridging finance for the project. “This type of housing would cater for a lot of people who have got homes perhaps bigger than they require. and want to move into smaller unit,” said Mr Hay.
