Holiday for old folk
Twelve residents from a Lyttelton home for the elderly will begin a 10-day holiday at Akaroa on Friday. Members of the group, from Cressy House, range in age from 69 to 94, but most are in their 80s. The matron of the home (Mrs J. Collett) and a voluntary helper will accompany them.
The group is being taken to Akaroa in cars by the Lyttelton Rotary Club. The members will stay in a motel and will pay for their own accommodation. Mrs Collett will do the cooking. Of six residents from the home not going on the holiday, one is in hospital, two are going on independent holidays, and three will stay with their families. Mrs Collett has hired a wheelchair, and is also taking along a variety of games in case the pensioners are unable to go out.
Appeal. — About $2650 was collected during the Life-Line street appeal on Friday. Of this $3OO came from a stall held in Cathedral Square.
