Springboks win game fishing

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The Springboks sprang a major surprise yesterday by winning the Bay of Islands international billfish tournament. The South African game fish team, captained by Slorrie Appel of Johannesburg with team members Peter Rixon and Gary Young, won the tournament with a huge New Zealand record black marlin caught bv Gary Young from the Lady Doreen. The 288 kilo black, taken on 22 kilo line, was almost double ■ the weight of the existing national record.

In second place was Bill Hall’s Hawaii big game fishing team, who had led right from ’he start until the biack marlin was land»d.
