Sir Charles Groves will conduct the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in a Christchurch Arts Festival concert to be broadcast live from the Town Hall on Saturday night. It will be heard on the concert programme. The concert opens with Mozart’s Symphony No. 33 and Violin Concerto No. 1 by Szymanowski with soloist Wanda Wilkomirska. Sir Charles will then present the first New Zealand performance of “A Spring Symphony” by Benjamin Britten. The Christchurch Harmonic Choir, the St Andrews College Choir and soloists Beverly Bergen, Lauris Elms and Anthony Benfell join the orchestra for this performance.
