Rewanui line

Sir, — Your article about the Rewanui line suggests even greater possibilities. If the enterprise shown by the Greymouth public relations office could be extended by head office I believe the Railways could strike even more gold. The Kingston Flyer has shown that thousands of people are still fascinated by steam locomotives. If one or two of the steam locomotives last used on the incline could be restored to pull tourist trains to Rewanui I am sure people would flock to the line in their hundreds of thousands a year. What a pity the centre rail has been removed; enthusiasts would come from all over the world to see such a unique railway operation. It could even be a great enough attraction to solve the ailing railcar problem; there would probably be sufficient numbers of passengers to warrant replacing them with locomotive-hauled trains. What a boost for the West Coast. — Yours, etc., H. BENNETT. March 15, 1976.
