Glenn Turner may move to N.I. next season

The cricketing future of the New Zealand and Otago captain, Glenn Turner, is uncertain as far as the d omestic programme for next season is concerned.

Turner, who arrived j in Christchurch yesterday to prepare for the final of the Shell Trophy against Canterbury at! I-ancaster Park today, confirmed last evening ‘ that he may not play! for Otago next season. "I am in a situation where! I am looking for possible em-j ployment next season and. at' this stage. I am onen toj offers. Otago is making an| officer and there could he one from further north." Turner said that it was unlikely that he would make a decision] hastily. It is believed that Turner! has received an offer to play; tn the Northern Districts! area. And the president of the Otago association, Mr! John Henderson confirmed yesterday that it was “not; definite” that Turner would! play for Otago next summer.)

j “We are negotiating terms Ito have Turner play again for .Otago because obviously we ! would like to have him back. [Our offer at the moment is ! a bit flexible and it could be i amended," Mr Henderson said. Negotiating The Otago association has (made Turner an offer which I he is considering. Turner will leave Christ- | church on Wednesday to join I the international Wanderers i team on its tour of South • Africa. His test opening partiner, John Morrison, has alI ready left to join the team. Turner said yesterday, (when asked about his statement of last year that he I would not share a dressing room with the then Australian captain. lan Chappell, with whom he was at odds 'during the test match at 'Christchurch in 1974, [that he had played in September in a double-wicket

tournament in Johannesburg in which Chappell took part. Otherwise, he said it was “no comment.” Turner will miss three one-day games, and a match at Cape Town against a

South African invitation eleven. The fixtures for which he will be available are against a South African Invitation team (one-day) at Port Elizabeth, a four-day game against the (cricket) President's Eleven, also at Port Elizabeth, a one-day match with a multi-racial team at Benoni, and then two four-day games, at Johannesburg and Durban, against South African invitation elevens.

The 28-year-old opening batsman is almost certain to captain New Zealand on its tour of Pakistan and India next season. This means he would not return to New Zealand until about early December, a Press Association message from Dunedin states. Boro in Dunedin and educated at Otago Boys’ High School, Turner has played for Otago throughout his first-class career in New Zealand, which began in the 1964-65 season. County Turner will rejoin Worcester some time next month and will go straight into the English county championship. Already jaded after a concentrated New Zealand season. he has been dismissed 15 times for 1156 runs at the grand average of 77.07. He hit five centuries to lift, his first-class career total to 58.
