New Colour for R.N.Z.A.F.

The GovernorGeneral (Sir Denis Blundell) will present a new Queen’s Colour to the Royal New Zealand Air Force at a ceremony’ in Auckland on March 16. The existing Colour, presented by the Queen herself at Whenuapai in 1953. is a little the worse for wear and so is being replaced. It has been held by the Wigram base for the last two years. For the presentation of a new Colour, a composite squadron made up of representatives of all the various bases wall parade to receive it. Twenty-nine servicemen from Wigram are included, including a Colour party, 1 which will hand over the old i Colour.

The old Colour will remain in Auckland temporarily be-j fore being laid up in the' Wellington Cathedral. The new Colour is being ! made at the Commonwealth Clothing Factory in Australia. Normally, it takes up to a year to make and can cost about $2OOO. Unlike regimental colours, which regiments pay for ’ themselves, the Queen's Colour to the R.N.Z.A.F. will be paid for out of the public ■ account. In addition to the service colour. a number of: R.N.Z.A.F. squadrons have; their own standards, which j are similar to the Army’s' regimental colours. They are Nos 75. 41. and 14 Squad rons. It is expected that No. 5 Squadron at Auckland will receive its own standard by the end of the year. I
