Centenary of parish
Celebrations to mark lhe centenary of St Albans Anglican Parish will be held at St Matthews Church. Cranford Street from April I to 11. Special church services arid reunions of church groups are included in the programme.
On Sunday, April 4 a former vicar of the church, the Rev C. L Dobbs, will preach at the service at 9.30 a m. In the evening, a barbecue will be held in the church grounds for young people, followed at 7 p.m. by a youth service. A former curate of the church the Rev D. C. Best, will preach
Members of the church drama group will gather for their reunion on April 5. and the junior family fellowship will hold a wine-and-cheese evening the next evening.
The centennial cakes will be cut following a thanksgiving service ar 10 a m. on April 7. The vicar of St Matthews Church tArch-
deacon K. O. Bathurst) said that this function was really for older members of rhe parish, including the senior and intermediate family fellowships. At 7.30 p.m. parishioners can take part in an evening of indoor bowls and cards. The choir will also hold their reunion during the. evening. At 11.45 p.m. on April 8 the women’s guild of the church will join in a reunion lunch, followed by a scenic tour of the Summit Road and afternoon tea at the Sign of the Takahe. A dinner and dance for young people will be held the next evening, at 8 p.m. There will be a SundaySchool party at 2 p.m. on April 10 and a “centennial get-together” at 8 p.m. A communion service will be held at 8 a.m. on April 11, followed at 10 a.m. by a centennial thanksgiving Eucharist service with the Anglican Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt Rev W A. Pyatt) as preacher. Official photographs will also be taken. A centennial lunch will be held at noon and a festival evensong at 7 p.m.
