Tenders soon for spinal unit
Tenders for the Burwood Hospital spinal injury unit, which is expected to cost $1,561,735, should he called soon.
Tenders to build an area for archery, javelin throwing, basketball, a sports shed, and a wheelchair dash strip will be called at the same time. The unit will have 30 beds.
A helicopter landing area (has also been included, and 1 space has been allowed for development of the site. Mr L. Haywood, the North | Canterbury Hospital Board’s I planning officer, told a works ■committee meeting yesterday, that all documentation for rhe unit had been taken to the
Department of Health in Wellington last Wednesday. The hospital was now waiting for the department’s approval to call tenders. The chairman of the works committee (Mr W. I. F. Utlev) told last month’s committee meeting that there had been a lack of progress on the spinal unit. which was approved in 1970.
Mr Utley had said that staff were becoming despondent at the lack of progress, and urged that approval to call tenders be given in three months.
