Vaudeville in the Square
/ Beginning today, I Cathedral Square will have open-air vaudeville from mid-dav to 2 p.m. ’ every week-day during ’ the festival. The organi isers of last year’s Square festivities have ' again assembled the f city’s folk groups, and , there will he everything i from blue-grass to pup- - petry. ? The old shearing shed ■ sounds, bush ballads and 1 blues are absent only two ■ 'days of the 10. The Banks Peninsula Folk Club — orI ganiser of the activities—-and the Canterburv Crutchinw Bush and Ceileidh Band will : hold the floor. ' Frank Povah, who will ;sing and recite at the club. Jis a traditional blues singer with a 13-year reputation in Australia and New Zealand The Ceileidh Band comes | equipped with all the bush I instruments — fiddle and! goose, banjo and mandolin, dulcimer, lagerphones,! spoons, and castanets. It ;should have a rousing reception from folk fans. The Busker will be wan-j dering around with guitar and harmonica during the j festival. | The local punneteer, Mr G ' F. Lonsdale, will put on two Punch and Judv shows, and: the Maggie Burke dance’"' I will give three selections of expressionist dancing. A Waikato pon band.
