Egmont: no change
(N.Z. Press Association) HAWERA, Mar. 5. Mount Egmont would not be renamed Mount Taranaki, the Minister of Lands (Mr V. S. Young) said today. In a statement released from his Wellington office this morning, the Minister, who is also member of Parliament for the Egmont elec- ) torate. said that to change the name would mean changing maps and charts,) and would affect trade names and documents used internationally, particularly because Mount Egmont was used for navigational purposes. He considered the controversy over the renaming of Mount Egmont a dead issue.
