Suicide attempt after wife’s drowning
The husband of a mother of four who : drowned in the Grey I' River earlier this month has tried to commit I suicide. Police cars rushed to the Christchurch home of Ronald David Bailey some days ago after he ran a hose from the exhaust pipe of his car into the interior of the vehicle.
The car was parked in an open driveway. Neighbours raised the alarm.
Bailey was rescued from the car unharmed.
His wife. Margaret Joy Bailey, aged 32, drowned in
i the Grey River on February 8 while on a picnic with her ! family. i The police have since exhumed her body for a second post-mortem examination.
It was possible that a murder charge would be laid in connection with the incident within the next week, the head of the Christchurch C. 1.8. (Detective-Insf tctor E. G Perry), said yesterday. Mr Perry said that detectives were continuing inquiries intc the death of Mrs Bailey at Greymouth. The police are awaiting a report from the Department ,of Scientific and Industrial ■ Research in Wellington after |the examination of her body i A man, who is being •held in custody, will appear [in the Christchurch Magistrate's Court today on a [ charge of sodomy.
