University roll up by 370
This year's roll at the University of Canterbury is expected to be about 6500, 370 more than last year’s.
With the main enrolment week completed, the records officer for the. university (Mr S. McColl) said that 5527 student's had enrolled, and that 970 were expected to[ enrol next week. There were also late enrolments to come.
Greatest demand has been shown again for arts courses, with 2604 students enrolled. 193 more than last year. Science students number 1574. seven fewer than last year, but commerce and law have attracted more students, commerce having . 110 more, at 700. and law 36 i more at 509.
Eighty-three students have taken music courses, compared with 71 last year, but forestry enrolments have fallen by seven to 57. Engineering and fine arts students do not enrol until next week. The estimate of 830 made for this department is 10 higher than for last year, and the 140 expected for fine arts is the same as. (for last year.
