Well-related Noah wins

For Mrs T. C. Lowry, of the Okawa Stud, the win of Noah in the first non-tote event at Awapuni last Saturday was of special significance. Nearly two years ago she nearlv parted with the horse altogether much to the chagrin of her husband, Tom. and her Hastings trainer. Bob Quinlivan. Thev were at the Yearling Sales at Trentham two years ago, where Mrs Lowry was offering Noah, then a dark brown colt by Entrenreneur from Plucky.
Bidding stopped at $3OOO and a sale was made, to the successful Sydney trainer. Tommy Smith.
The wisdom of Mrs Lowry selling the colt so cheaply was part of a conversation held later in the car park between her husband and Quinlivan, and Mrs Lowry confessed that she had no intention of letting the colt go at that price. Apparently, it was one of those transactions that hanpen In a flash. Her husband then advised her to buy the colt back. They tried but were not successful although Smith did sell them a third share each.
Quinlivan said that as a yearling Noah was perfect in almost every way. His only fault was that he was a bit small. But he had breeding, though not many buvers were probably willing to take too much of s risk with a product of Entrepreneur. which was being represen ted for the first time at that sale
Noah’s dam, Plucky, by Lionhearted is a younger half-sister to the champion galloper Game, and Cool.
