Council costs up 519.000

The Riccarton Borough Council’s basic costs would rise by $19,000 a year because of increases in charges, said the Mayor of Riccarton (Mr R. W. J. Harrington), at a meeting of the council on Tuesday evening. Electricity . would cost $12,000 more, he said. Postages would be up by $l5OO, telephone charges by $2500, petrol and oil by $l6OO and audit charges by $l4OO. In spite of this, it looked as if tne council could keep rates at a reasonable level, and without a gigantic increase, said Mr Harrington.
