Okarito Forest
Sir, — in your correspondence column today the chairman of the Westland National Park Board stated that the board would only be interested in “minor adjustments” to Okarito Forest in order to “protect skyline boundaries.” One must conclude that the board is not willing to seek any further adjustment of boundaries to protect the ecosystem on which the only breeding white heron colony in New Zealand is dependent. Surely the priorities of the board are distorted if it considers the conservation of a bird species to be of less value than that of a skyline. —■ Yours, etc.,
