Tribute to composer
Leningrad’s Philharmonic Orchestra will be re-named after the late composer, Dmitri Shostakovich, and scholarships will be estab-! lished at the Leningrad and! Moscow Conservatories in honour of his outstanding 'service in the development! of Soviet musical art, Tass has announced. ■ The news agency said the Soviet Council of Ministers had also decided to erect a statue above the composer’s grave, put a memorial plaque on his Moscow home, and publish a new collection of his works. takovich’s 70th birthday. He died on August 9, a month before his sixty-ninth birthday.
