Clerk retires after 40 years
The “grand old man” of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, the Lyttelton office manager (Mr Denis Clibborn) will retire on Friday after 40 years with the board.
Mr Clibborn is one of several long-service men who have retired from the board in the last three months. He joined the board in 1936 as a junior clerk at Lyttelton and apart from an 18-month Istint in Christchurch between :1938 and 1939, he has reimained in Lyttelton holding 'a variety of clerical positions. Since 1960 he has been the | Lyttelton office manager. "in recent years Mr Clibborn has been prominent in [Lyttelton championing the cause of the Time Ball Staitien. For the last five years |he has been secretary of the ! Lyttelton Maritime Associaition and for the last two • years he has been collecting research material on the old ’building.
• This he hopes to turn into ia 100-page book on the staition within the next two I years. !
