Cabinet decision on Angola
(N.Z. Pres# Association) WELLINGTON, Feb.. 23. The Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) today confirmed ! that New Zealand will recognise the Popular ] Movement for the Liberation of Angola (M.P.L.A.) , as the official Government of the country. Mr Muldoon said the Cabinet had discussed the issue this morning and decided recognition of the M.P.L.A. Government was the only realistic action to take. “But we deplore the means that Government has used to assume power,” he said. “And I don’t mean just the M.P.L.A.. but also the Russian and Cuban intervention.” The intervention was an “act of imperialism.” But the M.P.L.A. had estab-' ilished a de facto Govern-; ment. and was controlling 'Angola. This was the deter-: mining factor. '
