TV found before report of theft
.1 man. who returned 1 to his flat after work and found that his colour television set had been stolen, telephoned the police and was surprised to learn that it had been recovered, it was said in the Supreme Court yesterday. Bryan Thomas Paterson, aged 21, an entertainment centre manager, was found; guilty by a jury on a charge of burglary of the flat of Andrew Brian Fisher, in Swanns Road, on June 11, ■1975. Mr Justice Roper remanded Paterson in custody ito February 27 for sentence, after telling the jury that he had 34 previous convictions for theft and six for burglary. as well as other offences. ; Mr N. W. Williamson apipeared for the Crown and i Mr A. K. Grant for Paterson, ’who pleaded not guilty. Mr Fisher, a shipping I clerk, said that the stolen j television set was valued at ;5777. Paterson, whom' he knew under the name of ; Gary Wainhouse, had visited ihis flat two or Three times. Graeme Robert Brown, a ; drainlayer, said that Paterison had told him that he
had no car. and asked him to pick up a television set : from his flat in Swanns Road. Paterson gave him a key to trie back door, and drew the plans of how to I get to the flat on a piece of i paper. Paterson told witness not to touch any of his liquor. Witness took the television set to Paterson's place of work, and then to an address in Linwood Detective Constable Rayrnond Homan said that he II saw Paterson on .June 12. He ; showed him the statement
made by Mr Brown, and Patterson said: That statement >is a load of garbage I had nothing to do with asking 1 anyone to do a burglary or i;to take a colour television f set.” , The telex isfon set xx as re- >■ covered from an address ■ pointed out by Mr Brown in ; River Road about 5 p.m.. on > the day it xvas stolen. Paterson had a flat at that ■ address. The television set * was covered by mats and /other articles, Detective t Homan said.
