'Prisoner in danger of death'

(I)' Z P A Reuter—Copyright > DUBLIN, Jan. 6. An Irish Republican Army prisoner on a hunger strike in a British prison is reported by the Dublin branch of the Association for Legal Justice to be “in grave danger of death." In a statement, the association says that Francis Btagg, who is serving a 10year sentence in Wakefield Prison for guerrilla activities, has been on a hunger strike for three months—his fourth hunger strike in 2} years — and that his condition was rapidly deteriorating. The association, an Irish civil rights group, says that it has the support of medical opinion for the belief that if the hunger strike continues Stagg cannot survive for very much longer. British officials, however, say that his condition is “broadly satisfactory-” Stagg is refusing food in protest against what the association describes as his “inhuman and degrading treatment" in prison.
