- The former Wimbledon champion, Evonne Cawley, yesterday won her third successive Australian tennis crown, beating the young Czech Federation Cup player, Renata Tomanova, 6-2, 6-2, in the final of the national championships at Kooyong, Melbourne.

Mrs Cawley took only 56 minutes to wrap up the match, played in searing heat. The 21-year-old Czech girl was visibly affected by the heat, and never reallv got into the match.

Mrs Cawley pocketed a cheque for SAust6ooo, and Miss Tomanova, who has high hopes of turning professional. received SAust4ooo.

It was the second year in a row that a Czechoslovakian girl had gone down to Mrs Cawley in the Australian final. Last year Miss Tomanova’s Federation Cup teammate, Martina Navratilova, lost to the Australian.
