Donna Paree has appealing form

The Manawatu Cup | w inner, Donna Paree, | seems certain to start favourite in the Newton: King Travel Handicap at the Stratford Racing Club’s meeting at Strat-j ford today. The event, which is the first leg of the T.A.B. double, has attracted several form runners, and a close contest seems certain. Donna Paree beat some top stayers at Awapuni and in her present form, which includes a good third on the first day at Awapuni, she must be given an excellent chance. Dulcimer was far from disgraced on the first day, when she finished a close second, and with a little more luck in the running today could easily win. ; Hudu, a winner at New Plymouth last week, finished well at Stratford on Thursday and there seems little reason why he should not be a good chance again. Red Valley won well on Thursday and, providing track conditions are reasonable, he will be among the hardest to beat again. Matchmaker's form this season has been hard to fault, and while he has missed some racing lately he is so consistent that he must be considered. SECOND LEG Though well beaten on the first day April Wine may be the best chance in the second leg, the Lo-Price Discount Handicap. A winner at New’ Plymouth, April Wine finished’ a distant second behind Danios on Thursday but: with any improvement: should turn the tables this time. Jester Hika, a sprint winner on the course earlier in the season, finished a creditable sixth in the Stratford) Cup and could be the one to surprise at reasonable odds.
