Well-known N.Z. editor dies
I (X Z. Press .4 ssucta WELLINGTON. A prominent juurnalist and newspaper and broadcasting executive. Mr .John Herbert Hall, ihas died in Wellington {Hospital after a brief illness. He was aged 78. Mr Hall was editor of three newspapers. He was an official war correspondent with the 2nd N.Z.E.F. in the Middle East and the first director of sound broadcasting with the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation. After his retirement, he was executive officer of Volunteer Service Abroad. j In his later years. Mr Hall
;was historian to the N.Z.B.C . i completing a detailed and still unpublished history earlier this year. Mr Hall was awarded the 0.8. E. in 1967. Born in Southland in 1897. |Mr Hall was educated at the Gore High School and the Otago and Canterbury University Colleges, graduating M.A and L.L.M.. and with ■ a Diploma in Journalism. After working on a farm for a year, he joined the "Southland Times." in Invercargill. In 1918. he joined the j“Sun.” in Christchurch, as |a reporter, and for three sessions represented the papei in the Parliamental \ Press Gallery. He then became a sub-editor for "The Press "
