INSPIRED SPELL OF BOWLING

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. In an inspired spell of bowling, during which she destroyed the Auckland second innings with figures of nine wickets for 22 runs, Jill Saulbrey paved the way for Wellington’s win over Auckland in the New Zealand women’s cricket tournament yesterday. The Rothmans-sponsored tournament for the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield will enter its fourth round today. Auckland made 114 in its first innings. Wellington replied with 276 for eight declared, Miss Saulbrey (17) and the captain, Pat McKelvey (43) being the not out batsmen.

The win gave Wellington 10 points, and bonus points of six for batting and two for bowling carried Wellington’s points tally to 21. third to date behind Canterbury and North Shore, both of which have yet to have a bye. Canterbury recovered from an initial setback in its second innings to beat North Shore in the other match. In its first innings, Canterbury, at 69. had established a nine-run lead over Shore, which added 128 runs in its second innings. Canterburyreplied with 122 for two wickets. J. Olson (64) and S. Rattray (36) being not out. Karen Hadlee took three for 29 in North Shore’s second innings.
