Fishermen invited on ships

New Zealand fishermen have been invited to watch purse seining as guests aboard two chartered American ships. The general manager of the New Zealand Pelagic Fisheries Development Company (Mr P. Vela) said that the company had two vessels the Michelangelo and the Kerri M. on charter to prove commercial tuna stocks in New Zealand waters. The fishermen would be selected from applicants by himself, the general manager of the Fisheries Industry Board (Mr J. Campbell), and the director of the Fisheries Management Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (Mr B. T. Cunningham). Successful applicants would be taken out on the vessels at times- of good fishing to enable the fullest observation of fishing methods in the shortest possible time. Applications should be made to Mr Vela at Port Nelson.
