Catholic title to Ross

' (N.Z Press Association) AUCKLAND. John Ross (Auckland) won his second national Catholic tennis title yesterday, but not before a hard semi-final and a relatively easy final. His 6-3, 6-3. win against a former title-holder, K. V. Wright, was never really in doubt but it was a different story against semi-finalist. B. Kennedy (Weli lington). In that match, won. 2-6, 7-6, 6-2, ibv Ross, he was down one set land trailing 1-4 in the second I before striking a purple patch and hit 10 consecutive winners to dramatically change the tenor of the match. Levelling the score at four-ail. Ross dominated the remainder of the match and the demoralised Kennedy found no answer to Ross’s volley and smashes. Anne Pooley’s effort to emulate her fellow tenn-age doubles partner, Heather Lobb, in winning the women’s singles title was onlj- narrowly foiled by Margaret Bond, who won 6-4, 7-6.
