Five killer whales sighted

/SLZ. Press Association/ TAURANGA, Jan. 2. Five killer whales stayed close in shore for most of yesterday afternoon spending time at Papamoa. Ornanu. and Mount Maunganui beaches before moving away after giving surf clubs some excitement. The captain of the Mount Maunganui Surf Life Saving Club (Mr Colin Hewens) said today that the killer whales appeared to be a family group. “They swam slowly along the beach from Papamoa north. They were first sighted about 2.30 p.m.. but the group seemed to be playing around more than anything,” said Mr Hewens.
