N.Z. man on hold-up count

Three men, one a New Zealander, appeared in the Sydney Central Court today charged with a $90,000 armed robbery of a bank in the Sydney suburb of Randwick last week. All were handcuffed and under extra guard. They were remanded in custody to appear on January 9. No pleas were entered. Robert Rolland Patten, aged 28, a butcher, and Michael Stojic, aged 32, a cook, both of Bondi Junction, and Philip Archibold Western, aged 39, appeared before Mr H. Berman, S.M. They were charged with

assaulting several men on December 29, and robbing them of $89,300, the property of the Bank of New South Wales. They also faced charges concerning weapons and stolen vehicles, and Western was charged with earlier robbing the Bank of New South Wales, Randwick, of $76,600. The court was told that the police raided a motel room in the Sydney suburb of Bondi Junction, arrested two of the men, and took possession of about $2OOO and a car alleged to have been bought with stolen money. Their nationalities were not disclosed in court, but earlier the police said that one of the men arrested and charged was a New Zealander.
