Dennett Edgar Jaques, a landscaper, was convicted and remanded in custody until January 5 by Mr B. O. Nicholson. S.M. Sergeant R. L. Hall said [that on January 12. 1974. ! Jaques drove a group to I Henderson. where thev planned to damage a car (belonging to a “gang." At ithe time Jaques was a disqualified driver. At the address three of the group attacked the car with chains and an axe. Damage to the value of $5O was caused. Jaques then drove off at high speed and while travelling on the northwestern motorway went as fast as 100 miles an hour. Later he failed to negotiate a moderate bend in the iroad while travelling between 170 and 80 m.p.h. He had approached the bend on the incorrect side of the road. Jaques lost control and hit a lamp-post. Members of the group sitting on the tray of the truck he was driving were catapaulted into a field. All suffered injuries and one youth broke his neck and was now a quadraplegic.
