“Power boards’ rates cheaper”

Official figures prove that power boards supplyelectricity cheaper on average than other supply authorities — including municipal authorities, the president of the Electric Power Boards of New Zealand (Mr L. C. Harrison) has said.

Mr Harrison was replying to a suggestion by the chair-

man of the New Plymouthj City Council's trading i department (Cr R. J. Burkitt).; that the power boards had 1 no evidence to back their claim.

There was ample evidence, from the annual statistics oft the Electricity Department for the year to March 31,1 1975. said Mr Harrison.

"The average for all units! of all units of electricity sold: by city councils was 1.42 c. a! unit. For borough councils! it was 1.45 c. The Electricity! Department rate was 1:58c. This compares with the' power boards rates of 1.37 c a unit.

“If power board consumers, who make up 72 per cent of. all consumers, had to pay. the higher average rates; charged by the other authorities. the cost to them would be between S3m and sl6m more a year.
