Nightshade in berries

, (A.Z. Preus Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. Nightshade berries have been found in a packet of frozen peas at Inglewood. The packet and its contents have been handed to the Health Department in New Plymouth. The Supervising Inspector of Health (Mr O. T. Walsh) said the department had not yet ascertained whether the berries were the toxic deadly nightshade variety or harmless black or white nightshade berries. ‘"We are still investigating this case, and a botanist will determine the variety of the berries.” Mr Walsh said. No details of the name of the manufacturer of the peas could be given, because the company had not been informed of the discovery, Mr Walsh said. Mr Walsh said the deadly nightshade plant was distributed only in small lots, and it was not likely to be found in cropping areas.
