Aust. market mixed, quiet
Australian sharemarkets closed on a mixed note in quiet trading yesterday.
Traders said late buying support stemmed the sell-off! evident in recent sessions,' but the general tone remained unsettled. Among the industrials.! Mercantile Mutual stood out) with a 22c rise to 340 c. T.N.T.. Myers. Jennings and A. also firmed. The banks were actively supported, with the Wales gaining 12c at 668 c, and the National Bank 8c at 298 c. B. closed with a 4c loss at 680 c. C.S.R.. 1.C.1., 1.A.C., Waltons, Elders G.M. and C. eased. On the mining sector Utah was one of the biggest loslers, falling 30c to 900 c. ConIsolidated Gold, B.H. South, : Poseidon and Santos also ! dropped. However, C.R.A., M.I.M'., Hatnersley, A.A.R., WoodsideBurmah and Ocean Resources recorded various rises, mostly marginal. SYDNEY
