Early history of Winton

Sir, —I would like to seek assistance from readers who may be able to help with a history of Winton which the Winton Borough Council has asked me to write. If readers have letters, diaries, photographs, drawings, maps or any other data connected with the history of the town, and can make them available, I would be most grateful. Photocopied material would be preferable if the original material is fragile but in any case care will be taken and the material returned. Although the major celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the borough council will be held from January 23 to 26 the book will not be ready until the end of 1976. The story of Winton starts before 1876 and this is the period that requires research of primary sources. Hence original data is valuable and will be gratefully received.— Yours, etc., V. G. BOYLE, 62 Grange Street, Winton. December 16, 1975.
