St Albans bundled out

St Albans I. the leaders in the Canterbury senior women's cricket competition, suffered a sharp reverse on Saturday when It was dismissed by Western for the paltry total of 44. Western used the very gusty wind to good effect and the wickets were shared by Jenny Olson (five for 14) and Karen [Hadlee (five for 29). Mrs Olson completed a good [day by top-scoring with an unidefeated 47 when Western bat ted. Ethna Rotise. a former New ;Zealand representative, tilled in [and made a fine 21 not out ; St Albans had a vastly im prosed second innings, being 60 for three at stumps Mai Moa 1 could make only 57 against Sydenham, getting tn particular trouble against the Canterbury captain. Pat Carrick, who took six for 14 Sydenham managed a first innings lead of 24. but never really got on top of the Mai Moa bowlers. Sally Russell and M. Turner, who both took four wickets. [ Mrs Carrick again struck quickly in Mai Moa’s second Innings, taking two wickets without conceding a run. and Mai Moa was struggling at 13 for two at stumps. St Albans 11 were in a strong position at the close of play against Mai Moa 11, having a first innings lead of 68 with four wickets in hand. Sue Rattray took five for 11 as Mai Moa crashed to 48 all out and St Albans was 111 for six at stumps, thanks largely to Kay Gilray, who really pushed the score along and had nine fours in het total of 48 not out. Results:— St Albans I 44 (J. Olson 5/14, K. Hadlee 5/29) and 60/3 ill Jelley 26 not out), Western 98/4 dee. (Olson 47 not out. E. Rouse 21 not out; D. Brenmer 4/31).

N Pegley has replaced M Harding, who has withdrawn, in the Canterbury team which wil contest the national second eleven tournament in Dunedin from January 23 to 28.

Golf.—Mr Pierre Etienn Guyot, president of the Frenc 1 Golf Federation, said France would be unable to hold nex year’s world amateur champion ships as they could not invib Rhodesia to compete.
