Accused of corruption

Chief Minister Datuk Harun Idris, of Selangor State, said that he had been accused of amassing 60m ringgit (about $NZ19,500,000) in corruption, and that Government investigators had interrogated him. Datuk Harun was speaking co reporters at Subang Airport after sending off his wife on a pilgrimage to Mecca. On the Federal' Government’s offer to him of the post of the Malaysian Ambassador to the United Nations, Datuk Harun said that he would consider accepting it only when the allegations against him were cleared up. “I respect (Prime Minister) Tun Razak’s wishes and would like to accept such a great honour, but under these circumstances, I feel I am not fit for it,” he said. The Chief Minister said that he would not leave the country while allegations of corruption were hanging above his head. “I would not like to see i anything happen that will deI prive me of the opportunity [of clearing myself honour- ■ ably,” he said.
