Death as doctors hold firm
I.V.Z Press Assn — Copyright) LONDON. Dec 10. A baby girl died last night after two West London hospitals refused to accept her as a patient Both were closed because of the doctors’ dispute. A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said today that an attempt was made to have the five-month-old girl admitted. “We hoped that hospitals might relent, but they refused,” said the spokesman. “We then told the ambulance crew to take the child and her mother to a suburban hospital, which was open.” The 16-kilometre journey took the ambulance 20 minutes, but the baby was dead on arrival. The spokesman could not say whether the child would ” have died in any. case. The chief officer of the service will take the matter up with the hospital authorities.
