Strikers to face charges
NEW PLYMOUTH. December 10. The 19 strikers from the Shaw Savill freighter lllyric Mill face charges under the British Merchant Shipping Act when thev arrive back in London. The company is pressing the charges of refusing to obex lawful order to return to work, being absent without leave for 10 days and of holding up a ship after it was loaded and readv for sailing. The niyric’s master. Captain J. R. Richmond, read the charges to the strikers’ convener. Mr G. Hills, before the men were given their final pax and told thev would be flown bacV to Britain. The strikers repeated their claims that thev were being victimised and that the remaining claims they had made could have been resolved quickly. During this week all of the strikers' demands, except those for a water cooler and a new refrigerator, were met by Shaw Savill. An earlier demand that the cook be replaced was dropped after the striker* were told the food on board had improved considerably. Cm banned.—the England soccer international.
