Hard work and the cooperation of various business and community groups last week raised $4400 for the building fund of the Laura Fergusson Trust for the Disabled. The trust seeks funds to build a home for handicapped persons between the ages of 20 and 40. A site for the home has been made available next to Jeilie Park, off tlam Road, by the North Canterbury Hospital Board The 18 Supervalue supermarkets in Christchurch ran a raffle for the trust last week offering Christmas grocery hampers for first, second, and third prize-winners at all the stores. Goods for the hampers were given by major grocery’ manufacturers, the tickets were printed by G.U.S. Print, Ltd. and sold during the week bywomen from many service groups, and on late-closing nights by men members of the trust. The organiser for G.U.S. (Mr B. W. Johnson) said that even the posters advertising the raffle had been printed free, and that every •50c collected from the sale of tickets would go to the trust.
