C.F.M. workers' walk out
More than 400 meat workers yesterday walked oft the job at the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company's mutton chain at Belfast in a dispute over tailing and skinning.
The meat company expects the men to return to work on Monday, but in the meantime ,8000 lambs have been left in I the yards where they wer e ■ awaiting slaughter. , About 200 meat workers !stayed behind at the works ■yesterday to clear perishable [products from the chain. I They will return to work after the rest of the men return.
The dispute is oyer the [number of men needed to remove tails and skins from carcases.
The company’s genera) (manager (Mr D. Morten) said 'last evening that the company wanted to take the disIpute to a disputes committee |as set up under the award. The committee would be made up of an independent I chairman and one or two i representatives from both employers and union. Mr Morten said the committee could not be set up until the men returned to norma! work.
He said that some of the 8000 lambs in the yards would be taken to C.F.M.’s other works, and some would probably be returned to farms.
