(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON. An extra 51.2 million for loading in counties has been approved by the National Roads Board for detailed distribution—making a total for the year of $25.15 million. The Board had been asked •to provide a subsidy of $8:$1 for the Te Towaka turn-off, which involves the provision of a wind shelter to remove a traffic hazard but the board considered a rate of ss:sl was justified, bearing in mind the ability of the county as a whole to provide funds for roading works. Westland county received $8333 at ss:sl for the Rose Creek bridge, $lO,OOO at ss:sl for Haast-Jackson Bay sealing, and $4OOO at s2:sl for general resealing.

Ashley County received $6OOO at s3:s4 for minor works and $15,000 at s3:sl for work on the Upper Sef-ton-Beatties Road intersection. For this latter project a ss:sl rate was sought, but the Board considered that because it carried substantial logging traffic it should be treated as an industrial route and carry a rate of s3:sl. Heathcote County received $4286 at s3:s4 for work oil Huntsbury Avenue. Mount! Herbert County asked for supplementary funds to increase the subsidy rate of the Purau-Port Levy reconstruction and sealing from s3:sl, but the work was confirmed at s3:sl.
