Wharenui keeps its lead
Wharenui A maintained its two point lead in the Freshbake premier water polo competition at Queen Elizabeth II Park last evening. With four wins from as manx matches, Wharenui faces its i stiffest challenge from Becken-' ham-Sockburn R next week, a team which may be depleted bythe absence of Mark Harding, an international who is in hos-, pital after a motor accident. The two Beckenham-Sockburn teams are on six points, two ahead of University. South Brighton and Wharenui B meet in the bottom of the table clash next week Beckenham-Sockburn R 6: G. Dann 2. D, J. setting up of play, and proficient marking helping to make an entertaining spectacle It did seem it would be much closer, too. It was 2-al! at quarter time. 4-3 at half-time, but University’s effort evaporated then and accurate shooting from Graham Dann helped Beckenham-Sockburn draw ahead. The outstanding goal probably caine from Carl Immers. a lovely back-hand, but there were two goals of vintage quality from Warwick Williamson as well. Wharenui A 17: R. A. Clark 6. G. W. Campbell 3. South Brighton was almost pei petually a man short and against a team with Wharenui * understanding, this was fatal Two of the South Brighton players were fouled out lot disrespect and them apart, there were another six major fouls. Bryan Mustchin led his team well, John Symon continued his fine form in the hole, Murra Daxie wai a strength in rhe field and John Davie mado some fin* swift break*.
