National 'sent no softball letter'
( Wellington reporter) WELLINGTON. Nov. 24 No letter had been sent by the National Party to the organisers of the international softball tournament. to be held in the Hutt Valley next February, advising them that the National Party could not, if in power, admit a team from South Africa, the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Muldoon) told the National Press Club in Wellington today. He had been asked if it was true, as rumoured in Wellington, that on the advice of the nolice he had written to the organisers saying that a National Government could not admit a South African team. “We answered a letter, saying that we would not prevent a South African team from coming,” said Mr Muldoon. “We have received no information from the police which would lead us to give that opinion, and it is most unlikely that we will.”
In 1973, when the late Prime Minister (Mr Kirk) said the police had advised him on the problems which might be associated with a tour by a South African Rugbv team, he said this information had heen given to the Opposition. The Opposition has not denied this.
