Eight Canterbury! records at an inter-club i swimming carnival at I Queen Elizabeth 11 Park on Saturday augur well, for Canterbury in the national Speedo teleprinter age-group pre-: liminaries next Saturjday. I The records were shared, [between four swimmers, but! there were others who pro-! duced personal best times landjshould repeat or better them next week-end. Tracy Turnbull broke four! imore records on Saturday toi , take her tally to eight in I four weeks. In the 100 m breaststroke she recorded Imin 21.25ec,. which bettered the previous! marks in the junior, 12, and’ 113 years age-groups. The 12 i years time was her own at j Imin 22.95ec, while the othet two were Wendy Wake-, field's, both at Imin 22.55ec.; In the same heat Miss Turnbull had one of her own! records broken. His time of 58.6 sec ■ chopped a substantial I.3sec ■‘off the old mark, and beat ithe qualifying mark for the national championships. Miss Binning broke a .second record in the 100 m backstroke. She did Imin |l7sec. which bettered by 0.6 isec Denise Head's previous ;girls' 11 years record. The other record was ‘broken by Miss Head in the ■2oom freestyle.
